The Quidi Vidi slipway had reached its end of life and was no longer safe to use. Following its closure, the City collected feedback from residents, property owners and visitors on how they used the area and potential options to maintain access to the water. This feedback informed Council’s decision to replace the slipway.

At the January 21, 2025 Committee of the Whole meeting, Council approved $750,000 from the Capital out of Revenue budget for the Quidi Vidi slipway replacement.

Construction work to facilitate the replacement of the Quidi Vidi Slipway off Cadet Road began on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The slipway reopened June 29, 2026 with improved accessibility features.
