The City has received an application to operate a cidery at 70 Power's Road. To consider the application, an amendment to the Development Regulations is needed to add Cidery/Winery as a Discretionary Use in the Rural (RUR) Zone.
The subject property is within the Rural district of the Municipal Plan and is zoned Rural. The Development Regulations do not define cidery, and cidery is not a listed use within the Rural Zone. The applicant is requesting to amend the Development Regulations to add a definition of Cidery/Winery and add the use to the Rural zone. A Municipal Plan amendment is not required.
Review the proposed definition of cidery/winery below:
CIDERY/WINERY means a facility that is licensed by the Province to produce wine or cider
through the fermentation of juice, fruit, vegetables, honey or similar produce, where a portion
of produce used for the production of wine or cider is grown and harvested on site. May
include a tasting room and ancillary retail sales or Restaurant.
