Construction on Syme's Bridge is now complete. The bridge has reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The usual 5000kg weight restriction is still in place.

Construction work to rehabilitate Syme's Bridge is anticipated to begin on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, and is expected to be completed by the end of October 2024.

This project includes reinforced concrete repairs and rehabilitation works for the bridge superstructure, abutments and wing walls, installation of waterproofing for the bridge deck, and placement of new asphalt. Replacement of the existing railing has been identified as a "provisional" item, to be conducted as project budget and schedule permit. These repairs and rehabilitation works are being conducted to extend the service life of the structure.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, Syme's Bridge will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This bridge closure is required due to the nature of the work and the relatively narrow laneway across the bridge. There will be local access to Syme's Bridge Road only. Residents on the Waterford Bridge Road side of Syme's Bridge Road will have access via Waterford Bridge Road. Residents on the Southside Road/Cousens Place side of Syme's Bridge Road will have access via Southside Road. T'railway access will be maintained for people walking and wheeling through the area, however the bridge will be closed to pedestrian foot traffic.

Local Neighbourhood Impacts

There will be some noise and disruption as this work proceeds. We ask the public to obey and follow all posted signage and flag persons in and near the construction zone.
