What is the 2024 Bridge Rehabilitation Program - Syme's Bridge project?

The project is a Municipal-Provincial cost-shared project involving reinforced concrete rehabilitation work for Syme's Bridge. The existing bridge deterioration will be repaired and rehabilitated to extend the service life of the structure.

What is the anticipated schedule and duration of this project?

Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2024 and be completed by late-October 2024.

    Will traffic be impacted?

During construction, due to the narrow laneway across the bridge and the nature of the work involved, Syme's Bridge Road will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic at the bridge location. Syme's Bridge Road will be designated as local access only.

Access to residences on Syme's Bridge Road will be maintained with the homes on the Waterford Bridge Road side accessing Syme's Bridge Road via Waterford Bridge Road, and the homes on the Southside Road/Cousens Place side accessing Syme's Bridge Road via Southside Road.

Motoring public seeking to access Waterford Bridge Road from Southside Road and vice versa will be directed to the other bridge crossings of the Waterford River at Waterford Lane and/or Blackhead Road.

T'railway in the area will be maintained for people walking and wheeling through the area, however the bridge will be closed to pedestrian foot traffic.

How will I know if there are any traffic or other interruptions?

It’s always good to receive updates on this or any potential traffic interruption by subscribing to Traffic Advisories for such things as road closures, lane reductions, and other impacts to City traffic. To keep informed of the City’s traffic advisories please sign up for City Notifications.

What are the hours of work?

The contractor's regular hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
