St. John's Community Market

The City of St. John’s has begun construction of the new Community Market to be located at the former Metrobus depot on 245 Freshwater Rd. This project, which was identified in the City's Economic Roadmap 2021, has been in development for several years.

The City has partnered with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Government of NL and the St. John's Farmers' Market Cooperative to make this project a reality. Supporters of the project also include the Aviva Community Fund, and VOCM Cares Foundation.

Expected to open in 2018, the space will be the new home of the St. John’s Farmers’ Market Co-operative and will also include public space for meetings and gatherings, opportunities for outdoor vendors, all in the centre of the City.

A session was held on May 18, 2017 to talk to the neighbours about what the project means to their neighbourhood.

UPDATE: At its regular meeting on June 5, 2017, Council awarded the tender for the construction of the Community Market to Redwood Construction.
