Council is considering a map amendment to Appendix C, Map 4 Waterways and Wetlands. The purpose of the amendment is to update the status of the wetland at 853 Main Road.
Currently, the wetland at 853 Main Road is categorized as a wetland that requires further study. A study of the wetland was recently carried out and that study found the wetland has a Wetland Ecosystem Services Protocol (WESP) score of less than five. Under Section 4.10 of the Development Regulations, wetlands with an overall weighted Wetland Ecosystem Services Protocol (WESP) score of 5 or higher are protected, and wetlands with an individual WESP grouped function score of 8.5 or more are also protected. Wetlands with a WESP score less than 5 are not protected.
As the wetland at 853 Main Road does not meet the threshold for protection, the status of this wetland must now be updated.
This map amendment will change the classification of the wetland at 853 Main Road from 'wetland further study required' to 'wetland unprotected'. A Municipal Plan amendment is not needed.
