What are the hours of work?

Contractors typically work Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm; however, work may take place outside of these days/times, if necessary.

Why can't the City do the work at night?

Completing construction at night is generally not feasible considering the noise it creates for neighbouring residential properties. However, certain construction activities may be scheduled for completion at night to limit impacts to properties in the area.

    Will traffic be impacted?

Yes. There will be traffic impacts and disruptions with lane reductions and possible detours at times. Traffic control persons and signage will be in place. Pedestrian access will be maintained on at least one side of the street during construction with posted signage in and near the construction zone.

Will there be water or sewer service interruptions?

Water and sewer service interruptions are not anticipated for this project.  However, if necessary, residents will be notified in advance of any scheduled service interruption by the contractor.

How will I know if there are any traffic or service interruptions?

Residents are encouraged to sign up for updates on scheduled traffic interruptions or water/sewer interruptions by subscribing to City notifications. Sign up for City Notifications at www.stjohns.ca.

Will there be access to local residences and businesses along the construction routes?

Access will be maintained to all residences and businesses. "Local Traffic Only" signage will be posted, as necessary. The City's project managers and contractors will coordinate work in the project area with residents and business owners to minimize disruptions.

What is the project funding source?

University Avenue Storm Sewer project is funded through the multi-year capital program and cost shared by the City of St. John's and the Government of NL.

Will residents be assessed for this Civic Improvement?

Civic improvement assessments will not apply to the University Avenue Storm Sewer project.
