The City has received an application from Brookfield Plains Inc. for two Apartment Buildings, with a total of twenty-two (22) dwelling units at 4 Merrymeeting Road. The subject property is within the Institutional District and Zone, Heritage Area 1, the St. John’s Ecclesiastical District and Mount St. Francis Monastery is designated by both the city and province. The applicant is proposing to renovate the Heritage Building to accommodate six residential units and build a second 4-storey Apartment Building on the property that will house sixteen dwelling units

  • Amendment Adopted-in-Principle

    At the March 21, 2023 Regular Council Meeting, Council adopted-in-principle St. John's Municipal Plan Amendment No. 9 and St. John's Development Regulations Amendment No. 19, related an apartment building development at 4 Merrymeeting Road. The amendments will be forwarded to the provincial Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs for review.

    The applicant has completed the required Heritage and Land Use Report for this rezoning. The next step in the rezoning process is to conduct public consultation.

    The purpose of the Heritage and Land Use Report is to provide the public with additional information about the project. Once you have reviewed the document, please provide your feedback or ask a question.

    The Public Meeting will be held 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2023 in the Foran/Greene Room, Fourth Floor, St. John’s City Hall. As well, you can join online via Zoom. To receive the Zoom link, please sign up for the meeting. All comments made by attendees both in-person and online will be brought forward to Council for consideration prior to making a decision on the application.
